How to Get Your Anniskelupassi: Step-by-Step Guide

How do you actually get an Anniskelupassi in Finland, from deciding you need one to holding the certificate? Finland's Anniskelupassi (often called the Alcohol Passport or alcohol serving license) is a certificate proving one's knowledge of the Finnish Alcohol Act and serving regulations. Below is the process end to end, with links to the detail on each step.

Step 1: Learn the material

The exam is drawn from Chapters 1-3 of LVV's official serving guideline: serving bans, supervision duties, public order on licensed premises, and serving hours. You can study the guideline directly, or work through PassiPRO's course, which covers the same material with exam-style practice questions in English or Finnish.

Step 2: Pick an institution and a format

The test isn't run by a government office. Educational institutions in the hospitality sector arrange it and issue the certificate. Most require you to sit the test at their premises, but a handful let you take it remotely over Microsoft Teams instead, usually for a higher fee.

Step 3: Register and pay

Step 4: Show up with valid ID

Bring a photo ID: a driver's licence or passport is standard. Remote sittings additionally require a working camera and microphone kept on for the whole test, and a quiet room with no one else present.

Step 5: Pass the test

Step 6: Get your certificate

Once you pass, the institution issues your Anniskelupassi. It's valid indefinitely: no renewal, no refresher exam, and a later name change doesn't affect it, since the certificate is tied to your personal identity code rather than your name.
